JEONG
DO KWAN HAPKIDO
The
formal art of Hapkido, with its extensive curriculum can be a lifelong pursuit.
The Jeong Do Kwan Hapkido seeks to take the most essential principles and
techniques of the martial art of Hapkido and present them in a streamlined,
modern defensive tactics system. The system is designed to offer faster route
to practical self-defense skills than traditional Hapkido while offering a more
robust curriculum than a simple self-defense course. The program will train
students in the fundamentals of standing and ground combat as well as weaponry
such as the stick and knife. Jeong Do Kwan Hapkido is a modern interpretation
of Hapkido focused solely on self-defense.
Author Henry Lee, in his
article “The Invincible Sulsa” states that “Jeong
do is the "way of the
true sword." It means fighting in battle with honor and dignity,
dueling to the death, never retreating in the face of the enemy, and dying if
one must.” The system does not incorporate certain techniques found in
traditional Hapkido such as acrobatic break falls, Arial kicking, or archaic
weapons. Students will learn practical
hand to hand combat skills as well as easily accessible weaponry.
